November 29 was the anniversary of the Foundation of the Daughters of Charity. From daughtersofcharity.org:

“Our charism is our service to the poor and those in greatest need. This charism is the grace given by God to St. Vincent de Paul, St. Louise de Marillac, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, and all the Daughters who have followed them in their mission. This grace is a gift that we are blessed to receive. It’s our reason to exist that defines both who we are and how we live and work every day. As Daughters, we are called to a life of service. Our relationship with God is at the heart of our calling, and through life in community, we support one another in fulfilling our common mission.

Unlike Contemplatives, we are Sisters who live and work among those we serve. We are meant to be “in the world, but not of it.” We live in simple homes in or near the neighborhoods where we serve. Typically, our communities are made up of four to seven Sisters who serve in the same area, but often work in different fields. We have houses in more than 2,000 communities throughout the world.”
