I am a Doctor, and #IamVincent
Sai Aung Phyo was inspired by the Universityâs Vincentian Mission of service.
As a student in the Honors Program at St. Johnâs, he tutored classmates in biology, chemistry, and physics. During his free time, he also participated in the Midnight Run program, in which St. Johnâs students travel in University vans to distribute food, clothing, and necessities to homeless people throughout Manhattan. âIt was an amazing educational experience,â he said, âone that has propelled me forward, toward a fantastic career.â
After receiving his bachelorâs degree in biology, with minors in chemistry and philosophy, Mr. Phyo is enrolled in the M.D./Ph.D. program at the University of Pennsylvaniaâs Perelman School of Medicine. He is now in the programâs M.D. phase, seeing patients, taking their medical history, performing physical exams, andâwith attending doctorsâdeveloping courses of treatment.
Mr. Phyo said his professors and courses prepared him well for the rigors of medical school. He also attributes his success to his undergraduate years at St. Johnâs âand the people I met there.â
People who help. People who inspire and are inspired. People who can say I am Vincent.
