North American Vincentian Family Gathering: Keynote Speakers and Workshop Announcements
The 2017 North American Vincentian Family Gathering (VFG) is a multi-day conference to build community, conversation, and systemic change around the realities of migration in North America.
The Gathering will include the voices of immigrants and refugees, two keynote presenters, and five workshops.
Two Keynote Presenters:
Dr. Victor Carmona is Assistant Professor of Moral Theology at Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio. He previously worked with the Mexican Catholic Conference of Bishops and with the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate as a member of their Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Committee. He will address The Theology of Migration.
Ashley Feasley is the Director of Advocacy for the Catholic Legal Immigration Network (CLINIC). Prior to working at CLINIC, she worked as the Immigration Policy Advisor for Migration and Refugee Services of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). She will articulate How the Vincentian Family can advocate and collaborate with others on behalf of the strangers in our midst.
Confirmed workshops include:
Rev. Craig Mousin, Ombudsperson in the Office of Mission and Values at DePaul University,  facilitates effective dialogue to handle issues or conflicts. He is a lawyer and author and dedicates his time to pro bono work to aid refugees in Chicago.
Jonathan Ryan is a lawyer and Executive Director at Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES) in San Antonio, Texas.
Our Goals are to:
- Deepen our relationships and strengthen effective collaboration as a Vincentian Family.
- Increase our understanding of the complexities of the current immigration system.
- Discern how we are called to challenge injustice and create positive systemic change around migration.
