Doctor Margaret Healy was an early associate of Fr. Thomas Judge, CM. She had known him from his early preaching in Brooklyn, New York. Margaret had followed him as a lay apostle and became an effective recruiter of others. As an educator, she came in contact with many generous young adults eager to be of service to God and the Church.

In 1928 she was asked by Fr. Judge to assume the role of General Custodian for the combined lay groups which became known as the Missionary Cenacle Apostolate. She came to be a beacon of lay Cenacle spirituality, formation and ministry.

She held this position until 1964 when, with the cooperation of Father Stephen Quinn, ST, Dr. Healy became the initiator of the Blessed Trinity Missionary Institute, whose members took private vows and remained as missionaries within their secular and home obligations.

The Missionary Cenacle Family exists to glorify the Triune God by participating in the mission of Jesus as an apostolic family which is missionary in the providence of daily life. Today the Missionary Cenacle Apostolate is established in dioceses in the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Colombia. It has approximately 1,200 members.

Many Associates are involved in various aspects of social justice work, such as clothing and feeding the poor; working in Hospice organizations; ministering to those affected with AIDS; bringing comfort and consolation to shut-ins and those residing in nursing homes. Wherever possible their apostolates are carried out in collaboration with other members of the Missionary Cenacle Family.
