Junior LOC in Albany, NY Install 29 New Members!
On Dec. 8th, the Junior Ladies of Charity at the Academy of the Holy Names, Albany, NY, installed 29 girls from 8th to 12th grade. These young women have accepted the call to live their lives engaged in acts of mercy. The Albany Association of LOC extends its sincerest and happiest congratulations to the young women who have made a decision “to serve rather than to be served.”

The Junior Ladies of Charity at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in the Diocese of Buffalo, NY, have been involved in several recent service projects. Prior to Thanksgiving, 20 Juniors and five of their mothers joined hundreds of other volunteers in preparing 7800 bags of groceries, which were distributed to 2600 neighborhood families by St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy in Buffalo. At their December meeting, the Juniors prepared for Christmas by reaching out in a variety of ways. In November they had adopted two immigrant families, one a group of 10 from Somalia and also a family of four from Bhutan. Three gifts for each family member were wrapped during the meeting. From their treasury, the girls also gave a crock pot and a grocery gift certificate to each family. The Ladies of Charity from the parish donated money for a microwave for each family. During the meeting, the Juniors also assembled gift bags for residents of a transitional housing program for single mothers and their children and decorated over 500 cookies which were distributed to a nearby nursing home and to parish staff. Kudos to these Juniors who have recognized people living on the margins of society and have worked to help them during the holiday season.
