Do Something You Love

Earlier this month one of the Colorado Vincentian Volunteers mentioned that she likes to read the blog at Humans of New York. I do, too.

Its founder, Brandon Stanton, was at St. John’s University the other day and his presentation was highlighted on the St. John’s web site:

“Humans of New York is not some grand idea that I had,” Stanton said in his November 5 talk at the Queens, NY, campus. He launched the popular Humans series in the summer of 2010. “It started with a decision,” he explained. “I wanted to do something that I loved.”

That’s one of the key pieces of a good life discernment. You could tell similar stories, couldn’t you? A kind of, “Vincentians of … wherever.” So do it. Write it. Facebook it, tweet it and instagram it and tag it #IamVincent. Your sisters and brothers are waiting. Couldn’t you share part of your story that sounds like this:

“Despite his success, Stanton is quick to point out that Humans was not part of an elaborate plan he charted out. “I didn’t have any idea that I was going to move to New York City, stop people on the street, interview them, create a story about them, and then share it with millions of people every single night on social media,” he said. “It started because I made a commitment to myself and worked hard at something that eventually became popular.”

#IamVincent. And so are you.
