Recently FamVin posted a story about Rockin’ and Rollin’, the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth innovative way of engaging students in the Vincentian charism. Here’s what a few of the Sisters said about their experiences in the Rockin’ and Rollin’ event.
—Sister Rose Dolores Hoffelmeyer
All the Sisters I’ve talked to gave this activity an A+. We were blessed with a beautiful day; the front circle was in peak condition; and the students could not have been friendlier. They really seemed to be enjoying going around in groups and interviewing the Sisters seated in various “stations.” One of the things that impressed me was how quickly students from different backgrounds seemed to have bonded and were enjoying themselves as well as the activity. I think this idea is a “keeper.”

As one of the “Rockin’ Sisters” I found the event to be totally enjoyable! The students that came over to greet me and ask one of the “questions” they could choose from their sample questions or ones of their own. They were already “into” the structure of the process having had a great introduction to our history from Sister Rejane “aka” Mother Xavier. The students arrived at my rocker in groups of four, amiable, happy and ready to meet the “rockin” ones among us. Without hesitation I introduced myself and answered their question about the SCL connection with the University of Saint Mary. They seemed floored when they asked how long I had been here, and “64” years blew them away since it was way before some of their parents were still in the mind of God! But it was all in all, a great event and happily it will be repeated.

Despite the hot weather, the gathering went well. Students followed directions, came to each station and were quite at ease to meet us. I thought this orientation was a good idea and should be repeated with other groups of students, especially the young women. Because of the size of the group, the time (four minutes ) was set for each session, but I would have liked to have had a few more minutes so Sisters could ask questions as well as the students. It would be interesting to hear the reaction of the students to this gathering. I enjoyed this opportunity to meet these newcomers to our college. The students were pleasant and well mannered. Some commented on the beauty of the campus and were happy to have so much space available.
