Vincentian Women in Action!

Make plans to join the Ladies of Charity USA in Milwaukee September 12-13, 2014.

The Association of Ladies of Charity in Milwaukee, Wisconsin welcomes you to a “Great City on a Great Lake.” Our Theme: “Just Care! Vincentian Women in Action!” We are called as women of the Gospel to love and care for one another. Caregiving demonstrates our interdependency. According to St. Vincent, caregiving is the way that we truly experience God through one another. At this national assembly, we will highlight how we, as the Ladies of Charity, are supporting or can support family caregivers. We will call attention to what society needs to do to bring justice and support to families who are, or will be, caring for a loved child, disabled family member or elderly parent/spouse.

Thursday

Fabulous tours of our city followed by a Meet and Greet from 7-9 p.m. will begin our weekend together.

Friday

Mass with Milwaukee’s Bishop Don Hying will open our assembly. Our Friday keynote speaker, Marilyn Martone, will present “Persons Aren’t Burdens But Caregiving Labor Can Be Burdensome.” How often have you heard someone say, “I don’t want to be a burden?” Maybe you’ve even said it yourself. Persons are not burdens but gifts from God. It is only when we do not value caregiving labor and justly allocate resources to it that this work becomes burdensome. As Ladies of Charity we are called to take up Christ’s call to care for others. But as Pope Francis reminds us, to serve is not to be reduced to servitude. We will continue with sessions that support our theme and our association members.

Friday Night-

Special Offerings-Stacker Cabaret Dinner Theater, Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Game

Saturday

Our keynote speaker, Kim Bobo, Interfaith Worker Justice founder, will further develop our theme and ready us for a history lesson on Dorothy Day. Our closing Mass will take us all to the St. Joseph Chapel. Our buses leave at 4 p.m. to this beautiful chapel. Our final dinner banquet together follows the Mass.

Accommodations

The Hilton Milwaukee City Center will host our stay. Milwaukee is a city of famous restaurants, quaint neighborhoods, and beautiful museums on the shores of Lake Michigan. We are expecting beautiful summer/fall weather for September. We recommend layered clothing for your Milwaukee experience.
