Vinnies chief executive John Falzon was responding to Mr Andrews’s attack on the ALP and developers in parliament on Tuesday over the National Rental Affordability Scheme’s vulnerability to exploitation. “It’s disappointing to see the scheme being subjected to this kind of wholesale bagging without looking at the purpose of the scheme – that is, to provide an increase in the supply of affordable housing, especially for low-income households,” he said. “Support for the scheme across the community and the housing sector was overwhelmingly positive. We believe it is a positive plank for the future. It would be a serious and ill-advised error to drop it because of criticism of the scheme.
