Prayers During Lent

_______________

“Please be unafraid, these forty days! During these Forty Days of Lent, my Son will give you His greatest gift. He will show you through His pain and His sacrifice and death, how much He loves you, and wants salvation for you.”

Lenten Cross

Yes! I want to light a vigil candle

Dear ,

Send us your Lenten Intentions to be added to the Cross on the Miraculous Medal Altar. An intention slip will be filled in with your name and your prayer request. This will be placed in the cross on Mary’s Altar for her to take to her Son in this Lenten Season. Let us join Mary at the Cross, unite ourselves with the Mother of Mercy and Compassion, lay down our troubles with her during Lent and rise with the graces given through her from her Son.

A Lasting Legacy

On Ash Wednesday, the priest places ashes on the forehead of each worshiper as he says, “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you will return.” The ashes are placed in the form of Christ’s cross, so the ashes join us to Jesus. The season of Lent is a special time to grow closer to Jesus through the traditional practices of penance, prayer, and works of charity.

  • Lenten acts of penance like fasting and abstinence, unite us to Jesus in his forty days of fasting in the desert. Any physical pains we must endure, like headaches and arthritis, provide an opportunity to consider how Jesus suffered for us, and to be grateful for his love.
  • Lenten prayer takes on special meaning for us as members of the Association because we pray with Mary, who always leads us closer to her Son. Above all, Mass is a special time to stand at the cross with Mary and contemplate the love of Jesus who died for our sins.
  • Lenten works of charity join us to Jesus. He tells us that whatever we do for others, we do for him. Mary fed and clothed Jesus as a child. We feed and clothe Jesus when we assist the poor.

I’d like to invite you to send in your intentions to be remembered at ourAsh Wednesday Mass. Your intentions may include your request for Mary’s help to keep Lenten resolutions, as well as any other needs. You might wish to burn Votive Lights at the Shrine as a visible sign of your desire for Mary’s intercession.

I will remember you and your intentions on Ash Wednesday and all through the season of Lent. May Jesus bless you, and may our Lady of the Miraculous Medal keep you in her care.

Sincerely yours in Mary,
