DC philly 200February 10 is opening day for the newest exhibit of the DC Provincial Archives , “Beginning the Good Work: 200 Years of Service in Philadelphia.”

Elizabeth Ann Seton first sent three Sisters of Charity of St. Joseph’s to Philadelphia in 1814, the first mission outside of Emmitsburg. One of the three founding Sisters, Mother Rose White, is at the upper left in the image seen here. Since 1850 the ministry in Philadelphia has been continued by the Daughters of Charity. Through manuscripts, photographs, and memorabilia, the exhibit highlights 200 years of continuous service there, in the fields of social work, health care, education, and parish ministry.

The exhibit is free and open to the public. Public hours for the exhibit are Wednesday afternoons, 1PM to 4:30PM. It will be on display in Gallery 1 through April 30.
