romereportsThe Pope met with the International Theological Commission at the Vatican’s Apostolic Palace.

The Commission is taking part in a five year study period, that’s divided in three main theological points. These include the social Doctrine of the Church, a sense of faith, and the relationship between monotheism and violence. RomeReports provides these quotes….

POPE FRANCIS
“God is not a threat to humanity. Faith in God, and the Holy Trinity is not and should not generate violence or intolerance.”

As theologians, the Pope said this Commission has an irreplaceable role infostering dialogue and understanding between the Church and different cultures. He added, it’s a responsibility that makes them pioneers.

POPE FRANCIS
“This notion of being a pioneer is very important because sometimes it’s easy to think of theologians as being out in the distance.  Like being stationed at a military base, not on the front lines.”

The Pope also added that their task is both fascinating and dangerous. On one side, he said, it opens the door to a deep understanding of theology and holiness, but on the other hand,  it can lead to temptations like pride and ambition.

When it comes to the social doctrine of the Church, the Pope said first and foremost it’s the Church that must live out its teachings.
