Giving voice to the voiceless as almsgiving

As I was admiring with pride this piece of art created by my talented Grandniece Michelle Mueller (Facebook) I recalled a Catholic News service report (since taken down) discussing how taking action to promote immigration reform is a form of almsgiving during Lent. It might be interesting to reflect on giving voice to the voiceless as a form of almsgiving.
I believe it is the prophetic Old Testament scholar Walter Brueggeman who says to be reduced to silence is to be excluded from power. (If someone can identify the quote please send it.)
