“Vincentians: missionaries of charity, let us go to the poor!”. The SVDP International Youth Director writes of a gathering of Vincentian Family Youth in the days prior to the next World Youth Day.

Dear friends,

I am delighted to announce that the next international meeting of young people in the Vincentian Family will be held in Brazil in July 2013, a few days before the next World Youth Days (WYD).

The theme of this gathering will be “Vincentians: missionaries of charity, let us go to the poor!”. After several meetings of the organising committee, we have decided to hold the international meeting at Belo Horizonte from 19 to 21 July 2013. Participants will be met from 18 July onwards in Belo Horizonte airport. We can accommodate up to 2000 young people from around the world in one place!

We are currently planning the programme for the three days. I can already tell you that there will be catechesis sessions on the topics of mission, charity and on new forms ofpoverty. Along with local families we will also be organising a festival of Brazilian musicand dance.

We will then all leave together on Sunday 21 July in the evening in a coach for Rio de Janeiro to take part as the Vincentian Family in WYD. We will be accommodated in language groups in city centre schools in Rio de Janeiro. At the end of WYD, participants can return to their own countries directly from Rio de Janeiro or via Belo Horizonte.

The last international meeting of the Vincentian Family in Madrid in 2011 was a greatsuccess, thanks to your keen participation from all points of the globe. I hope that therewill be people attending from every country where the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is present.

I will publish regular information on the preparations for this meeting on theinternational Council General’s website: www.ssvpglobal.org

We will also set up a dedicated internet site in the next few weeks to provide all the information about this meeting in various languages.

Best wishes
Julien Spiewak
International Vice-President for youth
