From March 16th-20th, Fracarita International, founded by the “Belgian St. Vincent”, participated in an international conference on inclusive development of persons with disabilities in New Delhi,India. Bro. Jos Mathijssen, coordinator of Fracarita International, contributed with a presentation of inclusion in Belgium.

Edel Nair, Regional Coordinator Fracarita India, and Bro. Jos Mathijssen, coordinator Fracarita International, participated in an international conference titled “Global Commitments toward Inclusive Development of Persons with Disabilities”, organised by the Indian Association of Rehabilitation Professionals in New Delhi. During one of the sessions, Bro. Jos Mathijssen was given the opportunity to describe the situation of inclusion in Belgium. “There are many similarities between the Belgian and Indian approach with regard to inclusion, but the preparatory process and government support differ”, concludes Bro. Jos Mathijssen.

During his stay in India, the coordinator also seized the opportunity to visit Param Mitra Sadan, the psychiatric facility of the Brothers of Charity in Ranchi, and the primary school for underprivileged children in Simalia. Many of the school’s pupils are former child labourers. The school was built with the financial support of Caraes’ “South Action”, the annual campaign of the Belgian NGO for development cooperation of the Brothers of Charity.
