Knitting creates sign of God's love

The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth website  contains the following article that illustrates how knitting can be a sign of God’s love and concern.  Rosemarie Kirwin, SCN, recently shared one of her gifts in responding to a letter sent to the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.

The letter was sent to President Mary Elizabeth Miller, SCN, in request for a Sister who might be able to offer up their knitting abilities by way of a prayer shawl. In the letter a young man, that we’ll name as John, wrote that he was a long time reader of The Journey and had found the bicentennial issue to be beautiful and inspiring.

He also stated that he had found himself in need of a prayer shawl. Last March, John tested positive for HIV a week before his 26th birthday. After a difficult year filled with doctor visits, medications, and side-effects, he never forgot this, his favorite line of scripture, “I have loved you with an everlasting love …” (Jeremiah 31:3).

Sister Rosie was happy to respond. She said that, “this is one gifts that I have and is one of the ways I can respond to needs of this time in this young man’s life. As I made this prayer shawl, I was very conscious of John, praying for him throughout it’s creation.”

The prayer shawl is on it’s way and we all now hold this young man in our thoughts and prayers.
