"If those homeless people would just get a job!”

Have you ever heard some one express that sentiment? Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for people to think that someone is homeless simply because they won’t work or seek employment.

The fact is that many homeless people have employment–even full-time employment. Almost always, the cost of housing exceeds 50% of these individuals’ income. The problem is very simple: These individuals and families cannot earn enough money to cover the costs of the most basic living expenses.

Put simply, the math does not work! You can begin to understand the challenges that the working poor face on a daily basis. Imagine their feelings of frustration and fear. Fear of missing a day’s work (and a day’s pay) to care for a sick child.

And the Louisville St. Vincent de Paul Society is Speaking out and educating people with simple Math lessons to understand the hardships of Poverty.
