Sister Germaine Price, representing the Company of the Daughters of Charity at the United Nations, shares the news below of a training session about the Vincentian Family at the UN.
Twenty members of the Vincentian Family gathered in New York following the feast of St. Vincent to attend a 3 day Orientation to the United Nations sponsored by the Sisters of Charity Federation, the Congregation of the Mission and the Daughters of Charity NGOs.
Participants came from India, Indonesia, Mexico, El Salvador, the United States, France and China.
Each of the four NGO Representatives from the sponsoring groups gave presentations on various aspects of the workings of the United Nations and the role of NGO representatives at the UN and contributed to a common reflection on how the Vincentian Charism is present and lived out in their work at the United Nations.
Social Development, Migration and Human Trafficking, Climate Change, Women and Poverty were topics discussed by NGO Representatives from other NGOs.
Reflection on the documentary film “The End of Poverty?” and Systemic Change provoked lively discussion among the participants.
The Orientation concluded with a visit to the Mission of Haiti at the UN where we received first hand information about the history of the country as well as details of the current situation after the earthquake. The warm welcome and the very informative presentation were of great interest and appreciated by all.
