Floods in Pakistan beyond the resources of the SSVDP

John Freund, CM

According to the International Site of the SVDP the situation in Pakistan is huge and complex and it is beyond the resources of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Pakistan to provide emergency relief services. We have been in contact with them. The Daughters of Charity and the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentian Fathers) are not involved either, as they have no presence in Pakistan otherwise we would team up with them.
Under the circumstances the Council General of Society of St Vincent de Paul has not launched any appeal for donations. However, we shall review and consider the situation in Pakistan, looking at the practicality of rendering assistance perhaps in the next phase of rehabilitation and reconstruction of the lives of the people. We shall inform you in due course. Meanwhile we ask for your continuing prayers for the victims
