Vincentian name Auxiliary Bishop of Buenos Aires

Today, March 15th, the daily Bulletin of the Vatican Press Office announced that the Holy Father, Benedict XVI, has appointed Father Vicente Bokalic, the former Visitor of the Argentinean Province of the Congregation of the Mission, auxiliary bishop of Buenos Aires, Argentina, assigning him to the Titular See of Summa.

Father Vicente was born in Buenos Aires on June 11, 1952. He entered the community on March 1, 1970 and was incorporated into the community on June 5, 1976. He was ordained a priest on April 1, 1978 by Bishop Alfredo Expósito, Bishop of Zarate, Campana.

He worked in vocational ministry in Escobar and Buenos Aires. He was involved in formation work from 1983-1990 and again from 1997-2000 and was pastor at the Miraculous Medal Shrine (1990-1994) and in the missionary parish of Córdoba (1994-1997) and in the missionary parish of Goya. Since 2008 he has been working in the ministry of popular missions.

Within the Congregation he has been superior at the seminary (1987-1990 and 1997-2000), a Provincial Consultor (1987-1993 and 1997-2003) and Visitor of the Province of Argentina (2003-2009).

Congregation of the Mission reached Argentina on September 14, 1859 as one of the first religious congregations arriving in Argentina after 1853 National Constitution. Autonomous province of the Congregation was erected in 1873. Until recently Vincentians cared of National Sanctuary in Lujan. The basilica was built thanks to Fr. Jorge Maria Salvaire CM initiative.
