Earthquake in Chile: Mobilizing

More from the CM Province in Chile through Facebook “Earthquake: Mobilizing to help in assisting our brothers and sisters.”

Wednesday at 4:46 pm: 795 dead is the new figure given by the Government. The number of missing is not certain. At least two million are homeless, say official figures.

Now that we have verified that all of us are well, although there are those of the Daughters of Charity who still have no news of their families, we have begun to organize to assist in the much needed help.

The parishes of St. Maria Reina in Macul and San Vicente in Valparaiso are collecting things, especially food, to reach the most affected areas.

Parents and students came in groups to Macul today, Tuesday the 2nd, to visit some of their relatives located in the most ruined areas, as much to see and comfort them, as to bring any necessary assistance.

As the country has strong organization, with resources and preparedness for such contingencies, we will follow the lead of these agencies, especially those of the Church to channel our help.

As is appropriate, both the Visitor and the Visitor-elect have received numerous communications from abroad: missionaries, sisters, other Visitors, led by Superior General himself, expressing their solidarity and closeness in the face of the tragedy affecting the country. Several of them had also offered help and we are organizing a way to the receive that help.

People need material aid, but also moral help, comfort, and hope. The missionaries, without disregarding the need for material help — are also taking charge of this type of help. (edited.)
