The Provincial Treasurer of Puerto Rico writes “Crossing the frontier between the Dominican Republic and Haiti is not safe anymore.” “Today we add the strain of another high-grade quake in Haiti” “group from St.John’s University, NY, is doing community service at Rio Piedras“.

Dear John:

A soon as we receive the funds, I will keep you informed. Today we add the strain of another high-grade quake in Haiti.

Tulio and Faustino departed today at 5:00 a.m. with aid for our confreres. Crossing the frontier between the Dominican Republic and Haiti is not safe anymore. People are starving, which affects their behaviour. They are attacking trucks and vehicles carrying water, food etc. Let´s pray to our Dear Lord that our confreres may arrive well.

COFAVI, the Vincentian Family sent two big trucks yesterday via Ferry to the Dominican Republic. Some delegates went with them, including the president, Maria del Valle.

Father Jaime Vergara is working very hard, coordinating the effort at the aid headquarters in University Gardens, Rio Piedras. At this time a group from St.John’s University, NY, is doing community service at Rio Piedras, so I think they are giving a helping hand to Father. When I have new information, I will share with you.
