A Note to Users || Famvin Mobile

We have recently installed an automatic re-direction plug-in which allows http://famvin/en/ to recognize when a mobile user (cell phone or PDA) accesses the Famvin English site. Called “WordPress Mobile Pack,” this service is provided to enable you to “keep up to date” with the happenings within the Vincentian Family in a more timely manner. Occasionally, on slower speed connections, Famvin will default to the “mobile” version.

To redirect to the familiar desktop site, simply scroll to the bottom of the page and click the link. It’s that simple. If you experience any problems with this new feature, please advise us by commenting on this post. Happy browsing!

Automatic switching from full version to mobile does not work properly. I had to switch manually (using link in the bottom). But to make it, first I needed to open full capacity site on mobile browser. It easts about 1MB of data. Next, the page reloads very long. And finally it opens pictures and graphics at the top of the page one after one. RSS recognition works very well.
Perhaps it would be good to check on which devices it works and which cause problems. Presumably it is optimized for Nokia devices (S40 and S60 series). At the moment I’m using SonyEricsson C902

Same problems for me. Using Nokia E61i. I think it has peculiar coding expectations, from what I’ve read. Sometimes it loads, other times no. Perhaps this is not the time. It works perfectly with wordpress.COM sites, but they probably conform to its expectations….

P.S., I installed Opera Mini 4.2 (arguably the best) for my phone browser, rather than using the Symbian default browser. With settings on “mobile view”, it loads quickly, actually. May be a better option, since it has a nice RSS reader…. “Archives” and “Search” seem to be locked into the “Uncategorized” category. Troublesome. “Featured Article” is absent from page. Is it a widget?

I am aware that the page is very heavy, even in the mobile view. I’m looking into that, guys.

As for the featured post, that is a function of the theme. Since the mobile version doesn’t use the same theme, it doesn’t recognize the “featured post.”

When the mobile version opens it is not heavy. If you open a post (via RSS) it is about 35-38KB.

Opera Mini is excellent alternative for standard phone browsers. It easily opens standard pages. The only problem is, it can take time sometimes. Using Opera Mini uploaded pages are first loaded to Opera servers in Norway and next reprocessed sent to your phone
