Ascension Health in St. Louis, the nation’s largest Catholic health system, is asking its 113,000 employees to make donations to Seton Institute, Ascension’s international arm. “One hundred percent of donations will go directly to sponsors there in Haiti for their needs,” said Anthony R. Tersigni, president and CEO. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)

Ascension Health is sponsored by six organizations: four provinces of the Daughters of Charity, the Congregation of St. Joseph, and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. The Daughters of Charity working in health care there are safe, though their home was destroyed, Tersigni said.

Ascension also is working with the Catholic Consortium of International Health Care to support existing operations in Haiti. Seton Institute, Tersigni said, can help with its expertise n shipping to Third World countries. “Our interest is to make sure Catholic hospitals there are up and running and to help with their needs as well as the needs at clinics and centers.”
