vmp-child-povMaureen Tinkler, DC of the Vincentian Millenium Partnership – Justice and Peace Group invites us to learn how the debate is faring in the British Parliament. The show can be watched live at 8:30 PM British time which is approximately 2:30 PM EST time.

Dear Friends of the Vincentian Family,
You may be interested in watching Panorama tonight at 8.30pm on BBC1. It’s about the possibility of an amnesty for illegal immigrants which is gaining ground among MPs and in the public opinion.

In their crudest form, the moral & economic arguments for supporting an amnesty are as follows:

1. These paperless migrants have no rights and are open to exploitation
2. They provide services which are often unattractive to many (e.g. cleaning jobs etc)
3. They are supporting the black economy. They should be part of the tax paying public
4. It would cost millions to deport these people

For a fuller brief download the attached background information document.

The VMP is involved in the Strangers into Citizens Campaign www.strangersintocitizens.org.uk (backed by Cardinal Comac & the Bishops Conference) It is hoped that a significant number from the Family will take part in the Mass & rally in London on Bank Holiday Monday 4th May 2009. See attached papers.

If you feel that you can support this campaign please fill in the attached the commitment form & return by 27th March.

Many thanks,
Sr Maureen Tinkler DC
