The recycling program at Escanaba (Michigan) St. Vincent de Paul earned the organizational Recycler of the Year while George Semmens, Escanaba, was named individual Recycler of the Year.

From January to mid-September the warehouse shipped out more than 766,000 pounds of recycled clothing and miscellaneous items.

“We sell our items to companies that sell to Third World countries which in turn re-sell and reuse our recycled items”

The warehouse also salvages and reuses items such as banana boxes, paper grocery bags and plastic bags. Cardboard is recycled as well.

“The social and economic benefits the St. Vincent de Paul Society provides our community goes beyond the typical recycler,” Salbert said.
