Each year the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations observes the date of its founding, October 16, 1945, with World Food Day. Next Thursday, one event marking the date will be the opening of an Action Center to End World Hunger in lower Manhattan, NY.

The center is very near the World Trade Center site and only about a mile from the Elizabeth Seton Shrine. It is a “first-of-its-kind, interactive public space that educates and empowers visitors to tackle the global challenges posed by hunger and poverty.”

This is a great mention about the new Mercy Corps Action Center — opening this week in NYC. If you are in town or would like to follow the action online, all are welcome. The Action Center is located in Battery Park, near the Irish Hunger Memorial and just blocks from Ground Zero. Celebrities Chevy Chase, Tina Fey, Sesame Street’s Grover and others, including New York state’s governor, will be present for entertainment and seen in video feeds. The week’s events includes family activities, seminars, a comedy show, and learning presentations.
