Daughter of Charity "reinjects principles into health care"

“We just hadn’t paid too much attention to the spirituality of our leaders,” said  (Daughter of Charity) Mary Kay Tyrell, chief mission and ministry officer for St. Thomas Health Services. “We just assumed that if we hired them, they were there by choice.”

“But in the past eight years, we’ve gotten serious about looking for our future. We take seriously the qualifications needed to be a nurse. You have to have proper credentials. But it’s important to have proper credentials as a leader, to look for leaders who see health care as a ministry. It’s where we see people at their most vulnerable. It’s important to treat them with the dignity and respect they require at that moment in time.”
