The Vincentian website in Australia leads us to story about the impact of World Youth Day on the homeless. The St Vincent de Paul Society is concerned over a decision to move meals for the homeless away from their usual distribution venues during World Youth Day.

CathNews covers the story and includes a link to an Australian TV report that hundreds of homeless people could go hungry during World Youth Day because organisers have banned charities from running food services in parts of Sydney.

The Qatar Times reports that thePope specifically requests to meet disadvantaged youngsters in Australia (Link no longer active)

Coordinator of the event Bishop Anthony Fisher said the Pope had specifically requested a meeting with some of Sydney’s disadvantaged young people.
“Those he will meet are young people alienated from the many positive messages that World Youth Day promotes,” Fisher said.
A spokeswoman for World Youth Day confirmed the pope would meet people living on the streets as well as those battling drug and alcohol problems.

In another twist thousands of pilgrims may also be homeless according to CBNNEWS
