It is hard to know where to begin the story of gathering some of the US Vincentian Family in New Orleans last week. There are many signs of hope. Rebuilding and building anew is underway. People are returning. The presence of a gathering such as the Vincentian Family’s is evidence that the city is alive again.

But it cannot be right to look forward, or even to look at the growing signs of hope, without surveying the damage that remains.

These are photos of what some members of the Vincentian Family saw with their own eyes last Friday afternoon. I was with them; I took these photos in an attempt to show some of the devastation that, well more than two years on, has not been put right.

There is much more to see of the US Vincentian Family’s gathering in New Orleans from April 10 – 13, but I think this is the place to start.

Yes, there is much more to see, but I think this is the place to start.
