US Supreme Court clears way for resuming lethal injections

When the United States Supreme Court upheld the state of Kentucky’s method of execution, lethal injection, it gave the go-ahead to other states to resume the practice. One governor has already announced that executions would begin again. Read the story.

    The Supreme Court also heard arguments this past week in a case addressing the question whether the death penalty can be imposed where the offense if raping a child. (In 1977, the Court banned the death penalty in the case of rape of an adult but left open the question of child rape.) At least several states now have laws punishing rape of a child with death.
