The Council of Science Editors organized a “Global Theme Issue on Poverty and Human Development” on October 22, 2007, with the aim of both encouraging reseach on poverty and human development and disseminating that research to the broadest possible audience. The response was tremendous. 235 science journals from 37 countries published more than 750 articles, on a vast array of topics relating to the impact of poverty on health, the challenges of providing adequate medical care to the poor, and the ability of various health initiatives to reduce poverty. A fuller description of the project and a partial list of the articles published appears on the website of the Council here.
