Street Catechism - Designed Primarily for Inmates of Prisons

AWESOME is a street catechism project designed primarilly for inmates of prisons and jails.

During my time working with gang members at Men’s Central Jail, I found a need for catechetical materials. The inmates are full of questions about religion and they love to read and discuss aspects of the Bible and faith. But the chaplain’s office has limited funds for books, all of which go into purchasing Bibles for the inmates. And because inmates often have poor reading skills, most catechetical materials would be difficult for them to comprehend. And even if we could find an appropriate catechism, and be able to afford them, the inmates’ books are frequently taken away from them by the deputies who guard them.
