Bicentennial Celebration of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton's Legacy

EMMITSBURG, MD, December 15, 2006: The Daughters of Charity, a Roman Catholic community of women who seek and serve God in persons who are poor, of the Emmitsburg Province announces plans for celebrating the Bicentennial of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton’s, the first native-born North American to be canonized, arrival in Emmitsburg in July 1809.Planned events such as the recreation and reenactment of St. Elizabeth Ann’s journey from Baltimore to Emmitsburg, Maryland (approximately 57 miles) begin January 2009.
The legacy St. Elizabeth Ann left now includes six religious communities with more than 5,000 members, hundreds of schools, social service centers, and hospitals throughout America and around the world.
