Philippine Musical - Thunder in the Distance - Life of Pere Lebbe, cm

The faculty and students of St. John’s Institute in Bacolod City, Phillipines is set to portray the life and works of Belgian missionary Fr. Vincent Lebbe, CM. Lebbe is one of the respected missionaries in China and many credit the existence of the Church in China today top the fact that he pioneered rooting his approach with deep respect for Chinese culture.

Lebbe’s Chinese name Lei Ming-Yuen, means “The Thunder that sings in the distance”.

“We conceptualized this play because of the personal request of Msgr. John Su, who have known Lebbe when he was 6. Lebbe has noted for bringing the Catholic religion in China,” said Hinojales.

Su is the school director of SJI.

He pushed for the modernization of Chinese Catholics. He was assigned Diocesan Director of Catholic Action, in the diocese of Bishop Sun, one of the newly consecrated Chinese.

In 1928, Lebbe founded two religious Orders; one for men, called the Little Brothers of St. John the Baptist, the other, comprising of women named the Little Sisters of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus.
