DC (Great Britain) Sending Two Sisters to Help Situation in Niger

The Irish relief agency GOAL begging for much needed help in Niger. They are asking for people skilled in feeding programmes, especially nurses. Sr Sarah and her Council feel that the Daughters should respond to this desperate plea and very generously Sisters Liz Ferrie and Rita Quinn have agreed to go on behalf of the Province, to help in any way they can.Local food supplies have run out, government stocks of grain are exhausted and there are not enough seeds to plant for this year’s harvest. Of a population of 12 million, an estimated 3.6 million people are directly affected with over 800,000 children suffering from hunger. Despite the international response that is now getting underway, the situation has reached a critical point which could lead to disaster.
