Tuesday 29 March, 2005 letter of Sr Anne (Provincial Superioress of Indonesia), to Sister Evelyne, (our Superioress General) with news from our Sisters in Indonesia.”Dear Sister Evelyne,

Monday 23 March 2005 at 11.25 pm there were an earthquake in Sumatra and Nias Islands with the power 8.9.

At that time there were still four Daughters of Charity and two Vincentians serving there : Sr. Hendria, Sr. Yossy, and Sister Francis.

When the earthquake happened they were on their way from Lhouksumawae to Medan. Because of the earthquake they came back to Lhoksumawae by road. We were able to contact them by mobile phone and they are all well and in safe condition. Now they are helping the victims in a place near Lhoksumawae. At the same time Sister Christa with other volunteers were on their way from Medan to Nias Island. From this morning until this afternoon we tried to contact Sr. Christa whether by mobile phone or telephone but without any result because there was no lines. And we tried to contact the Sisters ( of other Congregation ) in Nias but still there were no certainty news. Thank be to God 5 minutes ago we were able to contact SCMM sister in Nias. Sr. Christa and other volunteers are also in good condition. Now they are in Mount Sitoli serving together with other volunteers.
