A BOOKLET aimed at supporting staff who work with people with an intellectual disability was recently launched by Minister of State for Health, Tim O’Malley.

This new report, published by the Daughters of Charity at St Vincent’s Lisnagry, emphasises the right of people with intellectual disability to be valued as human beings, to be treated with dignity and respect and to live full and enriching lives. The publication also stresses that they must be protected by having access to trained and informed staff.

Minister O’Malley emphasised the importance of society understanding that men and women, boys and girls with disabilities should have the same fundamental needs as any other group in society, including the need for sexual expression.
