Parliament leave poor to face dailhy ordeal. –
 
SYDNEY, April 5, 2004 (vinnies.org.au): The National Council of the St Vincent de Paul Society in Australia has issued a Media Release following the Federal Government’s dismissal of the recent Senate Poverty Report – Prime Minister Howard has said the poor are not getting poorer. He is mistaken.  “Believe the Government if you will, but the 3.6 million Australians living in households with a weekly income of $400 or less and the additional 1 million who live on less than $500 a week will know who to believe”, said Vinnies spokesperson. Terry McCarthy….. These poor people have NOT received a share of Australia’s recent strong economic growth.
