20 Leaders of the CM in Europe Discuss 'Ten Projects'

The majority of the Visitors of the 20 Provinces of Eeurope and the Middle East which make up this Conference gathered at the Provincial House of Naples (Italy) from 3-6 May to discuss the theme “Doers of the Word — Ten Projects for A European Visitor Today” Altogether, 18 Visitors, one delegate from a province whose Visitor could not participate, a former Visitor and some members of the General Curia were present. The Superior General inaugurated the meeting with the conference: “Doers of the Word — Ten Projects for A European Visitor Today” and celebrated the Eucharist with the Visitors.

On 4 May, Fr. Roberto Lovera, Executive Secretary of SIEV, presented, at the Provincial House of the Daughters of Charity of Naples, the book Storia dei Missionari Vincenziani nell’Italia Meridionale, written by Fr. Giuseppe Guerra and Professor Mario Guerra.

The principal theme of this meeting was: “Emigration and Immigration.” For this purpose, Mrs. Carla Brunetti (AIC-Italy) presented a conference on the topic on 5 May. After this presentation, various experiences and proposals were shared on the subject. Also on 5 May, Fr. Arkadiusz Zakr_ta, Executive Secretary of CEVIM and Visitor of Poland, presented a report on the past, present and future of CEVIM. Fr. Bronis_aw Sie_czak, former Visitor of Poland, spoke about the possibilities of creating a permanent office, as CEVIM, at the European Union in Brussels (Belgium), in order to coordinate projects for the service of the poor. Fr. Lubo_ Ka__ák, of the Province of Slovakia, was elected the new Executive Secretary of CEVIM.

The Visitors also had the opportunity to visit the interesting library and archives of the Provincial House. They were able to visit too some places of attraction in the area, like the Island of Ischia and Pompeii (sanctuary and archaeological excavations) among others.

The next meeting of the CEVIM will in 2004 during the General Assembly of the CM.
