The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth will bless and dedicate Marillac Center, their new retreat and conference center, at 1:30 p.m. March 15. Marillac Center is located adjacent to the SCL Mother House at 4200 South 4th Street in Leavenworth, Kan.
This facility is the first new building to be built on the Mother House grounds since Ross Hall, the Sisters? retirement center, was completed 30 years ago. Marillac Center is the initial stage of a four-year building and renovation project that includes widening of the Front Circle, addition of winding sidewalks, and renovation of Sisters? living quarters to include bathrooms in each bedroom and making spaces handicapped-accessible.
Although it is a retreat center, Marillac Center promises more than spiritual renewal. According to Sister Sue Miller, SCL Community Director, Marillac Center was designed to meet both the ministry and mission needs of this 390-member congregation of Catholic Sisters and its need for skilled nursing and assisted living space for its members in the years ahead. Approximately 100 Sisters currently live at the Mother House, 30 of them in Ross Hall. Sisters range in age from 23 ? 100 years old.
