In concordance with the 40 International Catholic Organizations, represented in more than 150 countries, the members of the Permanent Section of the International Council General of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul are concerned by the Situation in the Middle East and in particular by the Iraqi situation. If you share our apprehension, we ask you to be a community, a body in what follows:

It seems that, now, the man’s wisdom is about to fail. That there is no way to convince the leader of one of the two camps to seek a pacific solution instead of getting involved in a terrible war that could have unpredictable results and an inevitable end.

However, we believe in a higher wisdom, and that the prayer in the spirit of the Holy Father, expressed on January 13th, 2003 in front of the diplomatic bodies and reminded in “Pacem in Terris” can make the impossible possible.

Him, the Lord, is evidently the last instance that can avoid this tragedy.

As a consequence, we ask all the members gathered together all around the world in the International Catholic Organizations to recite with us:

The Prayer

Oh Lord, our planet Earth is only a small star in space. It is our duty, to transform it into a planet whose creatures are no longer tormented by war, no longer senselessly divided by race, color or ideology. Give us courage and strength to begin this task today so that our children and children’s children shall one day carry the name of “MAN” with pride.

All sister churches and religions and all people with the same desire are invited to join us.
