“On 20 October, World Mission Sunday, we will have the joy of celebrating together with the Holy Father John Paul II the beatification of our confrere, Fr. Marco Antonio Durando (1801-1880). He was the Visitor of the Mission and Director of the Daughters of Charity of the Province of Turin, called the St. Vincent of Italy, and like our Founder, he was an advisor of the rich, but a servant of the poor; director of nuns, but apostle of popular missions; fond of the king, but with the desire to spend his life among the poor, founder of the Nazarene Sisters and at the same time of charity centers.

He entered our Community with the intention of going to China to proclaim the gospel, but his delicate health did not permit it, and throughout the years of his service as Visitor he sent many confreres to China, to Ethiopia, to the Americas, and opened a seminary in Genova for the missions.

Now the Church places him before us so that he can be a model of a missionary and charitable life.”
