“From three German Sisters in 1965 to more than 150 in 2002” the first Bishop of Suwon diocese Msgr. Victorinus Youn wanted
to establish a religious congregation to serve for the medical and pastoral needs of the area.

The German foundation at that time was also looking for a place to do foreign missionary work.

In 1963, the Sisters of Charity who worked mainly in Germany were invited to Korea for
this apostolate and three German sisters arrived in Korea on January 8, 1965. First of all, they
decided build a Hospital with Charity center in Suwon area.

When 25 years passed since German missionary sisters arrived in Korea, the members of the
Congregation reached to 153. Since there was no provincial type of government in the original German
foundation, they opted for independent status with the permission of the Holy See. In an Establishment
general chapter held on June 21, 1990, the first superior general was elected, and then the Congregation
has a new status as a Suwon diocesan religious congregation.

The present growth of the Congregation lists, by April of 2002, 159 fully professed members,
50 temporarily professed members, 12 novices, 10 aspirants. Thus, there is a total of 231 members.
