This article features Sister Cecilia MacNeil, the last Sister of Charity to teach in the Halifax area school system.

Sister Cecilia MacNeil received lots of hugs from past students when she visited St. Patrick’s-Alexandra School in north-end Halifax in early September. As the last Sister of Charity to teach in the Halifax area—after more than 150 years of service—she explains that the Sisters leaving the school system really isn’t an ending. “It’s a feeling of pride,” she says, “because we have a history of being great educators and we will always remain educators through the volunteer work we continue to do.”
