Advent Reflections (Day 10)
Putting On the Virtue of Gentleness
December 6, 2022
St. Vincent links cordiality with affability, saying that it is particularly necessary in working with poor country people.1 He states that affability is the soul of good conversation and renders it not only useful but also agreeable. In his principal conference on gentleness, he says that the second step in being gentle (after controlling one’s anger and channeling it properly) is affability and cordiality.2

Let us pray
Lord, grant us the grace to channel our anger properly and to be cordial and friendly with one another and with those we serve.
Scripture
Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show every courtesy to everyone.
