Among the many initiatives undertaken in the Church and in our Vincentian Family to reach out to those who are suffering as a result of the economic and social crisis that has become more acute as a result of the covid-19 pandemic, we highlight the work of the Daughters of Charity and the Vincentian Marian Youth in Copiapó (Chile).

Sisters Raquel Argel, Carmen Gloria Acevedo, Juanita Romero and Cristina Tola, together with the young men and women who are members of the Vincentian Marian Youth Association, have organized the distribution of breakfast (at least three times a week) to the residents on Andacollo Street (the northern part of Copiapó).

The residents have received this help with joy, gratitude and hope. In the midst of this crisis shortages of food have increased and people who were already suffering, now find themselves in a more precarious situation.

The young people have made about their work known to others through the various social networks and have called upon the larger population to show their solidarity with these brothers and sisters who are in need. These young people are putting into practice the value centered education which they received at the Saint Vincent de Paul School … a Vincentian educational institution where most of them received their education. That reality was pointed out by Rigoberto Barrera, the director of said institution.

In addition to the more than 60 breakfasts, this group has also distributed clothing and at various times, lunch. They have also initiated a campaign to collect milk and cookies for children.

On the other hand, they are committed to building a center in order to serve the families in this area. The purpose of this center is the integral promotion of people.
