50th Anniversary Celebration of Saint Louise de Marillac School in Miagao (Philippines)
Care for creation is one of the Vincentian core values that St. Louise de Marillac School of Miagao (SLMSM) integrates in its annual plan of action. In collaboration with different villages, this activity has raised awareness of the responsibility to keep the environment clean and healthy, one that is conducive to LIFE.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of its foundation, however, SLMSM gave this activity a more meaningful accent when it brought students, Lay Mission Partners (LaMPs) and the Daughters of Charity together and worked with officials and residents of two villages in Miagao (Baybay Norte and Baybay Sur). As members of God’s family, each one lent a hand in cleaning up the shores where fishermen bring their produce that will eventually find its way to the market and finally on people’s table.
For the SLMSM community, this was an expression of its responsibility to care for creation and of its desire to give thanks to God for an abiding and loving presence in the School during these past 50 years.
The only Catholic school in Miagao, Iloilo, Philippines, SLMSM also serves students in 3 nearby towns. SLMSM’s privileged mission is the formation of the young and an integral part of that formation is to care for Mother Earth, our common home (Laudato Si’).
