Audience of Father Pedro Opeka, C.M., with Pope Francis
Father Opeka, missionary of the Congregation of the Mission in Madagascar, is visiting Rome. Last Monday, May 28, Pope Francis received him with affection, as Father Tomaž Mavrič CM says:
In these days, we have the pleasant visit in the General Curia of Father Pedro Pablo Opeka, CM, missionary in Madagascar who celebrates 48 years of service in that Province with his Akamasoa project. Within the program that is being developed in Rome, today we had the visit to Pope Francis. Now I offer you a short testimony of what this visit meant to him.
“Pope Francis, faithful to himself, received us with a smile and a spirituality that leaves you captivated. Pope Francis, with his charisma, immediately gives you the peace that he himself lives. Pope Francis, with his humility and his joy, makes you feel good and awakens in you the desire to be the brother of others by helping them in whatever way we can. Knowing that the bishops of Madagascar have invited him to visit the beautiful island next year, I took the opportunity to also invite him to visit the village of Akamasoa that has stood up with work, education and discipline, challenging extreme poverty. I have seen in the face of the Pope a smile of consent and he will see the joy of our children and young people who are waiting for him with open arms” (Fr. Pedro Opeka, CM)
