Dec. 1: Foundation of Sisters of Charity of Nazareth
December 1 marks the anniversary of the founding of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth (SCN), of Kentucky, USA. They are part of the Vincentian Family because they followed the rule of St. Vincent de Paul. They belong to the Sisters of Charity Federation.
From their website:
The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth were founded in 1812. Mother Catherine Spalding, along with Bishop John Baptist David, are honored together and remembered as co-founders of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.
As the SCNs begin their third century of ministry, the Motherhouse and central offices of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth are still located on the same property the Congregation moved to in 1822.
Watch as Sr. Frances Krumpelman, SCN narrates this beautiful history of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.
To find out more about what the Sisters are doing today, I recommend their magazine, The Journey, viewable online here.
